Black Mountain’s Gallery of Art Celebrates Local Artists

With a December 19th Reception

Black Mountain, NC (December 2010) -- AnTHM: Art – Threads – HeavyMetal is honoring its newly featured local artists with a reception and gallery specials on Sunday, December 19, 1-4 p.m. AnTHM, which opened in September, now represents over ten artists who live in the Black Mountain / Asheville area. Many of these local artists will be present at the event, and the gallery is offering a one day only 15% discount on local art. Guests will enjoy a tasting of the 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau sponsored by The Merry Wine Market, hot wassail and a local cheese sampling.

“AnTHM is constantly changing as I discover and add the talents of local artists to the gallery,” says Owner Cappi Macsherry. “This reception is an opportunity to celebrate our local artists, both established and emerging, and for the community to enjoy a festive gathering.”

Local artists featured at the event include scarf felter Ruth Duckworth, painter Becky Swann, artisans Ethlyne Davidson, Eileen Hallman, Briar Vapaamies, Holly Mitchell and Alex Rottenberg, photographer Cornelia Katchen, and Melissa Hahn, who makes purses and totes. Painter Ed Fadool from Burlington will also be featured at the event.

“Local art makes a wonderful and unique gift, especially when you have a chance to meet the artist,” says Cappi. “During this season and always, AnTHM is about connecting local and regional artists with the community.”...

Making a Statement

This will forever evolve but for now...this is where I reside.

I am an abstract artist living in North Carolina. I believe that painting in the abstract allows the painting to take the shape it is moving towards rather than forcing an image onto a canvas. Whether it comes from music, emotions, colors, light, or lines in scenes around me, I feel that inspiration has to be present in my process for the work to be great.
My love for painting came out of my love for paint, and paintbrushes. I love the way it moves, I am enamoured by all the ways it can move. I am obsessed with the part of the process when my tools become an extension of my hand, I hear music in my ears, and my eyes see the direction where the paint is headed.
I find that painting for myself is the only way I can paint for others. I desire that people will be drawn to my art because they see a reflection of themselves in the part of me I left on the canvas.
